Independent. Non-Entry.
Internal Visibility.
Our ROV systems operate as a fully independent internal inspection solution, eliminating the need for confined space entry, scaffolding, or temporary access arrangements. No physical reference points or installed equipment are required, enabling efficient internal surveys within complex tank geometries. High-resolution imagery delivers the clarity required for coating assessment, corrosion evaluation, and structural review, supporting detailed integrity analysis without disrupting vessel operations.
Ballast Tank Inspection that Delivers Actionable Results
ROV ballast tank inspection combines safety, efficiency, and visual clarity in a way traditional manned entry inspections often cannot. We capture high-definition imagery within confined tank spaces and convert it into structured inspection outputs that you can review, analyse, and share. The result is not just footage, but organised, decision-ready condition evidence that supports maintenance planning, class discussions, and asset integrity management — while reducing downtime and operational complexity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about our Ballast Tank Inspection services
Common questions about our ROV-based ballast tank inspections, reporting outputs, safety approach, and how the data supports class compliance and maintenance planning.
What is ballast tank inspection used for?
Ballast tank inspection is used to assess structural condition, coatings, corrosion, and internal integrity without confined space entry. It supports class surveys, condition monitoring, maintenance planning, and repair scoping while reducing operational disruption.
How is an ROV ballast tank inspection carried out?
Using IVM technology, our photogrammetry models provide reliable, measurable data suitable for engineering review. Accuracy depends on factors such as access, environmental conditions, surface texture, and scale control, but the output is designed to support practical measurement, spatial validation, and technical decision-making.
What deliverables are included in a ballast tank inspection?
We deploy compact ROV systems through existing access points to capture high-definition imagery throughout the tank structure. The inspection is conducted methodically to ensure full coverage of structural members, welds, plating, and critical areas.
Can the inspection support class surveys and compliance?
Yes. Our inspection outputs are prepared to support class requirements, enabling stakeholders to review condition evidence clearly and efficiently.
Does ROV inspection remove the need for confined space entry?
In most cases, yes. ROV deployment eliminates the need for personnel to enter hazardous tank environments, improving safety and reducing preparation time.
Is ballast tank inspection suitable for all vessel types?
Our ROV systems are suitable for a wide range of vessel classes and tank geometries, subject to access and operating conditions.

Why work with us?
Expert Underwater Ballast Tank Inspection Solutions You Can Rely On
Explore the benefits of working with Atlantas Marine for your inspection needs—leveraging advanced ROV technology, industry expertise, and comprehensive services to deliver accurate, efficient, and safe inspections for assets across various marine sectors.
We're fully self-sufficient. No support vessel or platform crane needed.
Our inspections are platform-launched, meaning we mobilise and operate directly from the asset being inspected, no support vessel required. That removes one of the highest costs and scheduling dependencies in a conventional ballast tank inspection programme.
We bring everything needed to run the operation. Our team arrives with a custom-built pressurised habitat and a PortaLARS system, so no platform crane is required. Bed space for three people is all we need from you.
This allows us to conduct thorough inspections of critical infrastructure, such as pipelines, offshore platforms, and subsea cables, ensuring the highest level of accuracy.
All we need from the platform:
- Beds for 3 personnel
- Food and drinking water
- Power supply
- Water supply for the CaviBlaster
Everything else, we bring.
Advanced ROV Technology
Atlantas Marine uses state-of-the-art ROVs equipped with high-definition cameras, advanced sonar systems, and precision manipulators to perform comprehensive underwater inspections. Our ROVs can capture real-time data with exceptional clarity, providing detailed imagery and 3D mapping, even in challenging underwater conditions.
This allows us to conduct thorough inspections of critical infrastructure, such as pipelines, offshore platforms, and subsea cables, ensuring the highest level of accuracy.
Increased Safety
By utilising ROVs for inspections, we eliminate the risks associated with using human divers in hazardous environments. Our ROVs can operate at depths and in conditions that are dangerous or inaccessible to divers, including high-pressure, low-visibility, and contaminated water environments.
This ensures that inspections are carried out safely, without compromising on quality, and reduces the risks to human life.
Comprehensive Reporting
Our inspection services come with detailed, actionable reports that provide a full overview of the findings. These reports include high-resolution images, video footage, and 3D models, as well as data from sonar systems and other sensors. With clear insights and recommendations, we help clients make informed decisions about repairs, maintenance, and compliance.
The comprehensive nature of our reporting ensures that no detail is missed and that clients have all the information they need.
